It depends on the sort of roleplay it is.
A lot of times if you're doing some sort of competition roleplay, choose a character that's simple. Too complex and you'll fall down a hole of chaos. A goth girl is good compared to a one legged lesbian amputee who lost her mother and father in a car crash the year before the season started.
If you're doing a situational roleplay then just stay in character. Not much else to do lol!
